Spring 2020 Season is Cancelled

Dear Little League Families,

We truly hope this finds you and yours happy and healthy, and working through this craziness with grace.  The last few months have been so trying on so many, and we miss you all and our great game so much.  The DLL Board of Directors has been working hard with the City of Davis and Little League International, trying to come up with any way we can make baseball happen for our kids this season.  Thank you to all of you who provided input on the survey last week that allowed us to compile further possibilities.

After thoughtful consideration and listening to our community we have come to the difficult conclusion that we have to cancel spring baseball.  We’d hoped to allow teams to practice, but the combination of loss of managers and players as well as compliance with city, county, and state regulations will just be too prohibitive to offer a positive baseball experience for our kids.

That said, we have shifted our planning to make fall ball amazing.  Our 12-yr olds who would have aged out are still eligible for fall ball, and we hope to start late August and run a 12-15 game season through October.  We’re considering adding a city playoff format (usually no playoffs in fall) to make up for the lost opportunity this spring.  Families that paid for the Spring Season and want to play the fall season may do so without paying any additional fees.

COVID19 has affected DLL financially. As I’ve mentioned in previous updates, much of the Spring registration money was used on uniforms, equipment, and upkeep on our fields and facilities. At this point the Board has provided the following three options:

  1. If you decide to play in our Fall Season, we will not charge a registration fee for those players who registered for the Spring Season. Please complete this FORM to apply your spring fee to the Fall 2020 season.
  2. Donate your registration fee to DLL (a 501(c)(3))
  3. Ask for a refund and DLL will provide a refund of 50% of the registration fee for those families who request it. Please complete this FORM to complete your refund request in writing.

We know there are many of you who have your cleats laced up and are longingly pounding your fists into the pocket of your gloves, ready to take ground balls and BP, so we gratefully ask for your patience (again) as we continue to watch the data and make wise decisions for our community.

Take this time to practice your fundamentals on the field and watch your favorite baseball movies, because

“This field, this game: it’s a part of our past…
it reminds us of all that was once good,
and it could be again.”
- Field of Dreams

Stay tuned,
DLL Board
